From April 16 to 19, 2026, the Burning Man European Leadership Summit took place in Nijmegen—and what unfolded was nothing short of extraordinary. For four unforgettable days, the NYMA site transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity, connection, and collective energy, where people came together to build something truly remarkable.

The event brought three unique experiences to life: the Summit (April 16–19), the Fest (April 18), and the Public Day (April 19). Each moment contributed to an atmosphere that was inspiring, immersive, and full of surprise.

But what exactly is Burning Man? What happened there? And how did people become part of it?

Many people knew Burning Man from the iconic event in the Nevada desert (USA), where a temporary city—Black Rock City—is built each year. Tens of thousands of people gather there to co-create a world filled with art, radical expression, music, and experimentation.

What became beautifully clear during this summit is that Burning Man is so much more than one event. Around the world, dozens of communities and gatherings are guided by the same 10 Principles—such as Radical Inclusion, Gifting, Self-Expression, and Participation—bringing that same spirit to life in their own unique ways.

The Burning Man Project, a nonprofit organization, has been dedicated to creating the conditions for meaningful human experiences—through creativity, collaboration, and doing what truly brings joy—all while respecting one another and the environment.
